Why did you choose to work at Simformotion?
Over the years, I have designed, supported, and enhanced embedded interface technologies for Simformotion while eagerly watching the industry grow. Since the mid-2000s, I’ve wanted to contribute and be a part of the simulation industry as much as possible while participating in the growth of technologies that connect real-world devices to the PC for immersive simulated training. Watching Simformotion succeed and become a leader in the simulated training space has been an exciting journey. Working with the Simformotion team has long been something I had hoped market growth and Simformotion’s success would eventually allow.
What’s your role and responsibilities?
At Simformotion, I hold the title of Innovation & Incubation Technologist. I work with teams to incubate current and future technologies while providing differentiating approaches and knowledge sharing. I also help identify and remove pain points while designing solutions to improve operations. I contribute knowledge and experience in automation and PC interfacing using proprietary embedded hardware. I support and brainstorm innovation while collaborating with teams, customers and business partners.
What are some of your professional goals?
My goals are to collaborate with all departments, teams, and stakeholders to innovate, incubate, and mature technology differentiators to expand operation efficiencies, improve products, reduce defects and increase competitive advantages.
Tell us about your professional experience.
I started my career in the early 90s as an electronic technician/service manager performing consumer electronic/PC repair and managing service operations. I later worked in manufacturing audio/video broadcast equipment, performing SMT rework and embedded design/engineering. In 1994, I began a 29-year primary career working in self-service banking hardware/software.
I worked in sales, service, and professional services, performing roles as a service engineer, systems engineer, account performance manager, systems specialist, and senior systems architect. I spearheaded and architected software solutions with tier 1 accounts related to physical security, electronic security, logical security, software deployment frameworks, autonomous software deployment strategies, BIOS and image automation. Since 2000, as a secondary career, I have innovated, designed and consulted on embedded solutions used for interfacing real-world controls to the PC for simulation purposes.
What have your years of professional experience taught you?
My professional experience has taught me to keep looking ahead and not to get emotionally attached to legacy ideas and directions. With technology, change is often constant, requiring new ideas and new directions.
What career/life advice would you give someone?
Work in areas you love and choose work you are passionate about. Surround yourself with talented people; it takes continuous teamwork to create and maintain a successful business.
What’s been your biggest accomplishment in life?
What I’m most proud of in life is being with my parents through their golden years, providing support and assistance during health setbacks and challenging times.
What’s your favorite quote or meme?
“Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.” – Denis Waitley
