Simformotion Spotlight – Zach Wood

SFM Spotlight - Zach Wood

Why did you choose to work at Simformotion?
I chose to work at Simformotion because of the opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team where I can help contribute to innovative projects/products that make a meaningful impact.  Simformotion has provided me the chance to grow both professionally and personally in a supportive and collaborative environment. I could not be happier being here.

What is your role and what are your responsibilities?
My roles and responsibilities as a Product Development Manager encompass a wide range of tasks to oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from conception to launch and beyond, with the primary goal being to lead and coordinate the development of innovative and high-quality products that meet our customers’ needs and drive business growth. My role also includes being involved in strategic planning, project management and cross-functional collaboration with a relentless focus on delivering value to our end-users.

What are some of your professional goals?
Growth and consistency are very important goals to me because I want to see everyone at Simformotion grow and succeed while we continue to deliver consistent, quality products to our customers.

Tell us about your professional experience.
My experience is much different than others. I worked in the US Navy for 13 years, from being a brand-new sailor to overseeing an entire operations center with 50 or more people at a time. After my time in the Navy, I worked in Houston, Texas, for Enchanted Rock, which specialized in providing resilient, clean energy solutions in microgrids. During that time, I worked with the director of projects to provide innovative microgrid and backup power solutions to companies and the city of Houston, Texas.  I then moved to the role of program coordinator at Caterpillar, working on various projects where I was able to see how new technology and new products were introduced to Caterpillar for their customers.

What have your years of professional experience taught you?  What career advice would you give someone?
Be flexible. Nothing will always go as planned; mistakes happen, or life throws unexpected punches at you. Learn to adapt and work with it.

My career advice is that you never know what someone else is going through at any moment. Try to be as calm and understanding as possible. Sometimes, just a simple smile and asking how someone’s day is going can make a major difference.

What has been your biggest accomplishment professionally or in life?
My biggest professional accomplishment was working in the Navy. Some people would do anything to have that opportunity, and it was very rewarding to be a part of it. My biggest accomplishments in life have been being married for almost 14 years and having two wonderful children. I couldn’t ask for more.

What are you looking forward to in 2024?
Growth in the company, products and professionally.

Do you have a favorite quote?
My favorite quote is, “People would rather follow a leader who is always real than one that is always right.” – Craig Groeschel.

Just be yourself, be transparent, and keep people involved. It plays a much bigger role when you are honest and willing to help others.

If there’s anything else you’d like to share, please do!
While in the Navy, from 2010 to 2023, I did three deployments and visited roughly 25 countries.
