If a proctored environment is needed: After completing SimScholars® curriculum on the lms.simscholars.com platform, learners will be directed by their instructor to take the proctored exam on the ICEV platform.
Five proctored courses are available. Here are the course lesson outlines.
SimScholars® Excavator Certificate,
Cat® Simulators
- Walkaround. Learn pre-operation machine inspection procedures.
- Control Familiarization. Learn and understand operator controls and dashboard symbols.
- Maneuvering Machine. Practice tight maneuvering and bucket penetration. Learn how machine position and center of gravity affect stability and safe lifting.
- Raking the Green. Rake the bucket in a straight line and determine bucket payload.
- Over the Moon. Practice avoiding onsite impacts and damage while positioning the bucket to follow an arc.
- Trenching. Use the bucket to excavate a trench and understand maximum allowable slope.
- Backfilling. Learn to properly backfill a trench.
- Quick Coupler. Learn to change work tools using the machine’s quick coupler system.
- Truck Loading. Learn the “Over the Rail” loading technique.

- Walkaround. Learn pre-operation machine inspection procedures.
- Control Familiarization. Learn and understand operator controls and dashboard symbols.
- Maneuver Hoisted Object. Practice maneuvering the machine while lifting and carrying an object using the bucket.
- Trenching & Pipe Installation. Perform trenching operations and pipe placement for underground utility installation.
- Dig Footings. Practice excavation operations to dig building footings.
- Clear Debris Pile. Use the Excavator and thumb tool attachment to load debris into a truck.
- Bench Loading. Learn to load a truck from a bench position in a tight space.
- Machine Offloading & Onloading at Trailer. Learn to load and unload a machine from a trailer.

- Maneuvering Machine. Learn to position the bucket and maneuver the machine around the worksite.
- Load & Carry. Practice using the bucket to load and unload material at an active work site with tight maneuvering spaces and a slope. Use the pallet forks attachment to load and unload pallets.
- Finish Grading with Bucket. Learn how to use the bucket for finish grading.
- Finish Grading with Box Blade. Learn how to use a box blade attachment for finish grading.
- Concrete Pad Removal. Learn to use the hammer attachment to break up a concrete pad.

- Lifting & Moving Materials & Objects. Practice lifting, carrying, and placing objects around the worksite.

- Pad Building. Learn to grade material to build a pad.
- Stockpiling & Berm Building. Practice using the machine to push material into a stockpile, then maneuver to a different area and build a berm.
